Wise Words He Has

Ceri and I were living in South Africa in 2004. We were visiting the UK that December for Christmas and to distribute wedding invitations.

Everybody knows that planning a wedding is quite dull so we needed something more challenging to occupy us. So we were planning my great escape from the clutches of the corporate world. The vehicle for my get away was a new website, our online magazine Harmonious Living.

Of course nothing in the Balston family can happen without consultation with David and Heather.

Hiding in the corporate world all my life this was my first piece of work that would be for public consumption and I wanted it to be, well, perfect.

David looked at it all and asked the question that must not be asked, "When are you going live?" I mumbled something along the lines of it not being ready yet because of various things I still needed to add and change. At which point he borrowed a quote from Voltaire and said, "The best is the enemy of the good."

This has stuck with me ever since and I remind myself of it everytime I strive for elusive perfection (procrastination really).

Incidentally, the website went live in August 2005.

David, I'm a slow learner, but I'm getting there.
