Codename Q

Codename Q

One of my memories of your Dad is of him giving me a lift back to Uni at Southampton one term.

I have vague memories of being your typical brooding arts student so was probably not much company, but the trip marked my introduction into the shiny new world of mobile technology. At the end of the trip your Dad called my parents so I could tell them we'd arrived - my first conversation on a mobile phone.

After that introduction I had to wait until my first job in Japan about 5 years later before I could actually buy one of my own, around 6 of which would have fitted into the one your Dad had in his car at the time (there's probably a law of technological advance buried somewhere in that sentence).

That first conversation, though, is still the closest I've felt to being in a James Bond movie.

Happy Birthday to your Dad and all the best for Saturday!
