Clash of the Titans

Clash of the Titans

In the summer holidays of 1990 I was lucky enough to go with Mum and Dad to Greece. I have many fond memories of that holiday but the times that I’ll cherish the most was the epic games of chess that Dad and I played every spare moment, to me it was the clash of the titans (ok, slightly exaggerated but you’ve got to understand the context of our surroundings).

I’m sure we played over 30 games that holiday and I found myself lying awake at night plotting my next move, so burned into my memory was the layout of the unfinished game. I’m not sure who came out on top but I’d like to think that I gave Dad a run for his money and for the first time started to feel like I could be his intellectual equal...

One day Dad, we'll have to have a rematch, don't feel that we have to do it in such a glamorous setting though!
