A Gentle Touch

A Gentle Touch

My favorite memory of David was the afternoon he spent with a sleeping infant on his shoulder. David came to visit when our daughter, Lily, was a few weeks old. She frequently had upset tummy. (I think that's what it was -- she couldn't properly articulate, but the crying was loud and frequent.)

David very kindly offered to hold her for a while, and settled her on his shoulder. The warmth from his chest and his calm air of grandfather-to-be soothed her into a deep sleep. She slept all afternoon. He didn't move, didn't want to disturb her.

I don't know who was most pleased -- the grandfather-to-be, the grateful parents, or the baby.

It's a sweet memory of a sweet guy. Happy birthday, David, and many happy returns. Love to you from all of us -- Gail, Jay and Lily
